L'Oreal HIP Jelly Balm - Ripe

Tester: Hispanic (Venezulean) about Salma Hayek's complextion with med. pigmented lips.

"The latest lip product from L'Oreal' HIP line will satisfy a preference for sheer (but strong) color, and your sweet tooth as well.

The first shade I tried was Ripe, which is a very flattering, warm, dynamic pink. The texture of the jelly balm is very much fitting the name - it's soft, balm-like and almost spring-y to the touch in the pot. It was very smooth going on my lips as well. The fragrance is the most amazing caramel/vanilla blend. It's not sickengly sweet, but rather a warm, yummy comforting fragrance that is not heavy or cloying at all.

This was perfect for everyday wear when I wanted a touch of color (tinted) that was light and moisturizing, and not super shiny. The visual effect is more that of your lips being moist rather than shiny. The staying power was very good; both when I wore it alone or layered it over a warm pinky-brown lipstick. It was never sticky or gooey on my lips. Since this is a sheer color, so if you have dark lips, you will need to wear a neutral lip pencil first if you want to see it more prominently.

I ususally applied with my fingers, but it also worked just as well with a lip brush (I know a lot of you don't like putting your fingers in pots).

Ripe was certainly the color that flattered me the most, and that I kept reaching for, but I also loved , Savory (warm apricot) and Plush (light baby pink) (all the product names are akin to food descriptors). There are also several deeper shades such as Delectable (deep red) and Luscious (deep plum) that look amazing on darker complextions (think Gabrielle Union to Alek Wek). These are really mistake proof, rich and moisturizing and a great price too." L.D.
