Bourjois Liner Effect Mascara - Noir Styliste

Tester: Multi-Ethnic (African-American/French Canadian) with medium length, slightly curled lashes.

“We’ve enjoyed many types of mascara here at Palacinka Beauty over the years, some drugstore, some department store brands, and some really high end ones. In our first mascara review of 2009, we are happy to report that Bourjois Liner Effect Mascara is not only a great performer – but delivers on it's promise!

I was first introduced to this product by a lovely French woman who was actually wearing it, and as I spoke with her, I could not keep my eyes off her lashes – they were long as could be, wispy, feathery -- and her eyes were indeed defined, but not in a heavy eyeliner way.

This is exactly the result I got from Bourjois' Liner Effect mascara. It did indeed give the effect of wearing a light trace of eyeliner. But first, let’s begin with the formula and brush design.

Bourjois Liner Effect is a kohl-enriched formula that didn’t clump, smudge, run or flake on me. It’s quite a “wet” formula that took a minute or two to fully dry. The color is a deep, rich glossy black.

The brush is asymmetrical and contains very short bristles, which allowed me to really target the roots of my lashes (It did define my upper lash line very well, creating that "liner" effect), as well as the bottom lashes (when I wanted a stronger look). These shorter bristles were also perfect for applying it through the length of my lashes. By turning it to the side with the longer bristles, I got incredible length, and a nice wispy effect (as opposed to a really full, super voluminous one, which should be kept in mind). This is what created the “drama” -- nicely lifted, lengthened and separated lashes. Editor’s Note: This is not a curling mascara, so there was no noticeable curling effect with this product.

It took a little practice to fully get the hang of it, but once I got going I was really happy, and it’s worth a little more time to get this fantastic effect. I loved using this mascara with additional eyeliner on my upper lash line as well for day or night.

This may not replace your daily eyeliner application (particularly if you like a bold line), but if you are really busy, want to feature a wispy eye look that particular day or just want to use 1 eye product and get more bang for your buck, this is a fantastic choice!” RLB
