Fragrance Find - Jennifer Lopez Deseo Perfume Celebrity scents are not quite the big deal they were a few years ago, but they aren't going anywhere any time soon.

In this particular case it's not a bad thing. Jennifer Lopez, who has been one of the more prolific celebrity fragrance makers has released many scents in just a few years, including Glow, Sunkissed Glow, Glow After Dark, Live, etc.

I wondered if Deseo, which is a departure from the glow series, could stand out not just as a good Jennifer Lopez scent, but as a good scent overall.

It does - if you like a stronger, slightly mineral-ly floral perfume with a prominent warm/musky drydown.

First, the bottle is stunning (especially in person to me, but I realize this may be a love or hate shape). It's modeled after a raw diamond on it's side, with the pale blue base reflecting the liquid inside with beautiful glass etchings. It's really beautiful on the dresser...

When the perfume was first released I remember reading an interview with Jennifer talking about how the idea for Deseo came to her after strolling through her own garden on a summer evening after it was misty and slightly damp. I thought to myself that this sounded like a creation that could evoke a beautiful feeling if done right.

Deseo (Spanish for Desire) is a tropical floral woody scent which started off on me with some citrus fruit, and then went into a milky, slightly coconut/sand quality. The floral notes, provided by Star jasmine, were very subtle on me, but provided a nice soft middle to the sandalwood, oakmoss and cedar notes towards the dry down. I found that it did, in fact, remind me of an summer evening, particulaly on an island with lots of flora just after a quick rain shower.

It had a tropical feel, but in a very sophisticated way. The component that really did that for me were the salty/mineral notes which blended so well with the amber, oakmoss, ceadarwood and sandalwood.

I found myself reaching for it often for an evening out, on the weekends, and especially for outdoor summer events and the beach. I think it's really lovely and wearable. Interestingly, even though this is a summer scent, because of the very warm notes I would also reccommend this as a bridge scent going into the later Fall months as well. - RLB
