Exclusive Beauty Interview with Decorator Kelly Wearstler

Sephora.com, Inc. Kelly Wearstler is a world renowned interior decorator/designer and a huge source of inspiration for me.

She has a line of home accessories in New York's Bergdorf Goodman department store and has decorated/designed sleek hotels like Tides South Beach, Avalon, and the Viceroy Palm Springs, as well as many boutiques and restaurants across the country.

In addition she's also the author of 3 decorating books,
Modern Glamour: The Art of Unexpected Style, Domicilium Decoratus and her latest, Hue, which is all about the creative use of color in our homes and everyplace that surrounds us.

I've been a fan of Kelly's work for years and always delight in seeing the hotels, stores, and other projects she's created, as well as her books, which I've read from cover to cover.

I'm pleased to share with you an exclusive beauty interview with the woman who not only manages to make spaces and home objects/accessories look beautiful, but is stunning and stylish as well! I wanted to find out a few of her beauty secrets and favorite products, and now you can too. - RLB

RLB: How do you come up with the concepts for your looks on your book covers?

KW: The concepts are conceived organically. I look at the content of the book and determine which interior best represents the work and go from there.

RLB: Which makeup/hair people do you love to work with?

KW: Some of my favorites include: Keiko Hamaguchi (Hair/Make-up), Andy Lecompte (Hair), Calista Sanderson (Hair), Mara Roszak (Hair), Mai Guynh (Make-up), Scott Barnes (Make-up) Edward Bess (Make-up).

RLB: Do you see creating a beauty look as similar to thinking about a decorating project?

KW: Yes, the two are very similar. It's all about having fun and mixing the old with the new in order to create something unexpected.

RLB: Have you ever thought about doing beauty packaging? Would you take a similar approach to that of your interior design?

KW: Nothing at this point, but I do think they are related. If you have a specific point-of-view, it will translate into different categories - Beauty, Fashion, Interior Design...

RLB: What are your 5 favorite beauty products?

KW: Dr. Hauschka Lip Balm, Anthelios 60 Sunscreen, Sally Hershberger Genius Spray Wax, Edward Bess Lip Gloss, M Moroccan Oil Shampoo.
(These are also my must-haves when I travel).

RLB: What products/treatments do you love for skin care?

KW: Aesop is my favorite. It is an organic line, and all of the scents are amazing!

RLB: Is there a particular color you use in decorating that you could see as a beauty product?

KW: I can give you hundreds, but wouldn't want to bore you!
