Zoe Saldana Covers NYLON Magazine!

drugstore.com One of my favorite actresses, Zoe Saldana, is becoming quite a magazine darling! She's been featured on Glamour, Essence and Latina Magazine all within the last few months.

Now Zoe is NYLON's April cover girl - looking, cool, sexy and a little bit edgy - in only the way Zoe can.

I love the subtle makeup, with a focus on her beautiful skin, the wavy bob and the yellow, black and blue combinations with her outfit (and yes, she's pretty much the only one that can wear a skirt like this!). The fingerless gloves give her a bit of retro-80's Madonna feel which is also cool.

Fragrance Find - Balenciaga Paris Eau De Parfum

30s/40s When I first heard the fashion line, Balenciaga, was launching a new fragrance, I was instantly intrigued with what it might smell like. The fashions from Balenciaga are incredible to me. Futuristic in a way, but with incredible cuts, colors, patterns and details that pay homage to traditional French dressmaking.

The scent is actually a bit like a step forward - and then back in time - and it made for a very interesting experience.

I would say that my first impression of the scent on my skin was a fresh, slightly dry, mix of violet notes, a dash of sweetness and some pepper. I found it sophisticated and alluring - almost "serious" in a sense.

The lasting power was very good, and while I personally preferred wearing this in the evening, it certainly be a day time scent. The dry down was a lot more powdery and brought in more sweet notes.

However, the scent changed on me depending on the time of day - and even sometimes from day to day - that I wore it - quite fascinating! Sometimes it was a lot more peppery in the beginning and in the dry down, and sometimes more of the violet came through throughout the day.

The concept behind the scent, created under the direction of Balenciaga designer Nicolas Ghesquiere, was to make a "modern violet" scent. I think he accomplished this - in an "edgy" way, that at the same time, could also be considered a little old fashioned because of the violet and powdery notes.

For those of you who like unique, sophisticated scents with a clear point of view, I would highly recommend this fragrance. The bottle, (which reminds me of a decadent bird cage), it really a standout on the dresser for all perfume bottle lovers as well! - RLB

Drugstore Buy of the Week - Caress Whipped Souffle Body Wash, Blackberry

If you're looking for a wallet friendly treat to pamper yourself in your drugstore aisle, you need to pick up Caress Cream Whipped Souffle Body Wash, Blackberry ASAP!
The texture and feel is exactly what you would expect from this product name and visuals on the bottle - creamy, whipped (almost like a pudding), smooth, as well as instantly hydrating - but with no oily or heavy feel.
The body wash is a pretty pink color and smells like a very yummy (but sophisticated) version of blackberry and vanila that's not too sweet, and keeps a nice fresh "soapy" feel to the scent that I loved.
If you love lather, this is also the body wash for you, only one quarter sized dollop produced tons of lather, and it was moisturizes from the first application until I rinsed it off. My skin was very soft and felt silky with no tightness or dry feeling after rinising and drying off.
Note: If you have very dry skin, you will most likely still need to follow up with a bit of lotion, especially on elbows, knees, feet, etc., but otherwise, it really does seal the moisture in the skin. The body wash also comes in a second scent, Caress Cream Whipped Souffle Body Wash, White Peach, which is also yummy! - RLB

Pat McGrath's Favorite Things!

drugstore.com One of my all time favorite makeup artists, Pat McGrath, Star Makeup Artist and Global Creative Design Director for Procter & Gamble Beauty for brands including CoverGirl, Max Factor, SK-II and Dolce & Gabbana The Makeup, is the current Beautiful Stranger of the Day on Beautiful Stranger TV.

Here are a few highlights from her interview that you'll love! - RLB

Biggest mistake most women make with makeup: “Using the wrong foundation color. When testing foundation go into the natural light with a mirror…if you cant ‘see’ the difference in color, then you have a good match!”

Very first makeup experience: “I remember my mom mixing foundations and colors to ‘create’ matches for deeper skin tones. In those days, women of color didn’t have as many options as we do now. “

Who tends to her hair: Karina Castaneda and Marcia Samuels

New Bold Colors for Spring - Josie Maran Natural Wonders Powder Palette

This guest post is courtesy of Thefind.com

It's time to start thinking of warming up makeup tones and leaving the cold drama of winter behind. With more bohemian and relaxed styles dominating right now, makeup is ranging from natural looks that enhance, to bright, funky colors that will welcome spring.

I kind of stuck with safe choices over the winter, so to be honest I'm ready to step out and do something bold now. Turquoise seems to be an important color for spring right. This
Natural Wonders Powder Palette ($35 at Sephora) from Josie Maran has an iridescent turquoise right at the heart of it. Looking at the entire palette, there are definitely different combos here than what I would normally go for, so I'm looking forward to coming out of my shell a little bit. It includes five eye shadows , two blushes and a bronzer. A palette like this can be great if you're ready to get over the winter blahs and move on to something more daring.

Beauty Innovation - La Roche Posay Physiological Micellar Solution

30s/40s Had an incredibly tiring day? On the go traveling, no water handy and need to get fresh in a hurry? Just lazy at the end of the day?

It's OK. La Roche Posay's latest cleanser, Physiological Micellar Solution is just what you need.

I loved how gentle this no-water needed cleanser was. With just a few sweeps of the solution on a pad, my face was cleansed, while still feeling fresh, light and moisturized with no stinging or burning. It can also be used on all skin types.

The solution did a great job of removing my eye and face makeup (and primer/sunscreen) without a lot of pulling or tugging. The smell is so nice as well! Really light and faintly sweet. This cleanser is also perfect for sensitive skin and sensitive eyes. It didn't leave any sort of sticky or oily residue and left my skin very soft and hydrated.

Please note that if you have very dry skin, you will need to apply a moisturizer immediately after cleansing, but for those of you with oily skin, you will be able to skip moisturizer if you like.

Beauty Flashback - Kelly Emberg

30s/40s In this series, I look back at models, entertainers and celebrities who have left an indelible mark on the world of beauty, fashion, modeling, and style for me via magazine covers.

Texas born Kelly Emberg, was a blond who had what many considered the ultimate "All-American" look. But I always felt that she was had much more of an exotic edge than many of the leading blond models in the 80's.

This first cover from British Vogue shows how well she could carry off bright, bold color, and still look polished and sophisticated. I love her almond shaped eyes and those perfect teeth! The use of yellow (and pink!) on the eyes, with touches of yellow and apricot on the cheeks, along with the peach lip is so bright and fun!

In this second cover from December 1980 Cosmopolitan magazine, Kelly is rocking BIG, high hair, studded diamonds, tons of black eyeliner, lots of blush, fringe AND fur - but she makes it all work!

This last cover from 1983 German Vogue is another favorite (gotta love the puppy!). Again, lots of pretty shadow on the yes - three shades - green, orange and a bit of lilac rounded out by a soft smoky rimmed eye and red/coral lip. - RLB

Beauty Find - (New) Clarins Bright Plus HP items!

Beauty.comOne of my all-time favorite skin care products for providing amazing glow, brightening and skin tone evening is the Clarins Bright Plus HP Intensive Brightening Masque.

Now Clarins has even more goodies from their Bright Plus HP line, and I'm here to tell you that these are also fantastic.

Clarins Bright Plus HP On-the-Spot Brightening Corrector provides exactly what the name says - on the spot, targeting brightening of small dark spots or patches on the skin. It's a small roller ball pen that delivers a clear, lightweight liquid that dabbed onto any uneven areas, lightens and brightens within about two weeks - this is a must have for those of you who suffer from occasional bouts of hyperpigmentation due to breakouts, and it's the perfect size to pack for travel or carry in your bag for additional treatments during the day.

A great product to use in conjunction with the Clarins Bright Plus HP On-the-Spot Brightening Corrector is the
Clarins Bright Plus HP Intensive Brightening Smoothing Serum. The serum is lightweight and silky smooth, and after using 1-2 times a day for a few weeks, I could see that my "glow" quotient was upped considerably!

It even made a gradual difference in my under eye area, which I loved! The serum hydrated my skin beautifully and provided a nice base for a moisturizer (Clarins Bright Plus HP Brightening Hydrating Day Lotion SPF 20 Oil-Free is a great choice as well!).

The serum + corrector are a fantastic "1-2 combination" to help with hyperpigmentation. With all the products in this line, a small amount really does go a long way, so this is a skin care investment that is worth it for brighter, more even toned skin.
