Drugstore Buy of the Week - Maybelline Fit Me Shine Free Foundation

I've told you about a previous Maybelline Fit Me Liquid Foundation which I loved, and now there's something for the oily girls out there that won't break the bank either!

Maybelline Fit Me Shine Free Foundation has a unique formula.  There's a oil absorbing core, visible right within the center of the stick.  When I applied the foundation directly on to my skin, I was amazed how well the color matched and how easily, quickly and smoothly it blended in.  The texture is like that of a lightweight creamy-gel and has a slightly powdery feel once on the skin.

As a matter of fact, although I also tested application with a foundation brush (which worked as well), this stick design and formula is so good, I had just as good results by just swiping the stick on my skin and blending in with the fingers.  The shade I used was Coconut (shown, above), which is the deepest shade in the range currently.

As for the shine free product claim, I was also very impressed.  Once the foundation was on it set and become matte, but still with a natural finish - in other words, my skin didn't look like a mask.  My t-zone barely needed even 1 blot during the day, and there was much less oil than usual on my blotting paper.  What is fantastic about this formula is that even though it sets matte and has oil absorbing properties, it never dried out the rest of my skin, like my cheeks, during the day either!

The coverage is light and can be built up to a medium level.  The stick packaging makes this the perfect addition to your work day makeup bag and for travel.  They really have thought of everything with this foundation.  Amazing! - RLB

Personal Care Find - Motif Moist hand and Face Wipes

These beautifully designed Motif Moist hand and Face Wipes not only feature attention worthy designs and patterns, but they have amazingly fragrant and unique scents that will make you feel you're applying a gentle fragrance with a wipe instead of an spray atomizer or roller ball.
They are gentle enough to use on both face and hands and they are larger than the average wipe (almost twice the size) so you can get a very good clean.  The wipes are soft and very moist - but not drenched. They cleaned well without stripping my skin.  They also hydrated my hands (a lovely benefit!) and didn't leave any sticky or oily film after drying.
The price is also fantastic - just about $2.00 for 15. My favorite scents were the Citrus Zest and Ginger (shown left) and the Olive Leaf and Coriander (shown, above).  Both of which smelled very authentic and natural, but not overpowering.  These also come in a third fragrance, Water Lilly and Herbs.  Pick up a few for upcoming travel, last minute touch up needs at the office, your school bags and the gym. - RLB

Men's Fragrance Find - Chrome United Azzaro for men

A great gift for the man in your life this summer (or treat for yourselves guys!) is the new Azzaro Chrome Cologne flanker, United.

This version has a spicy-woody composition that's also quite light and fresh.  The hubby is a BIG fan of this scent, which has refreshing citrus notes of bergamot which immediately meld into bolder, spicer notes like the coriander and Szechuan pepper.  The cologne takes a mellower turn about 10 minutes in, and that's when the slightly sweet and woody notes like Ceylon black tea and violet tea come in.  The dry down is very sensual and masculine, but never gets too heavy or musky - thanks to the cedar and white musk, which also lends a softer, unique, powdery aspect to it.

The scent has a nice longevity on the skin and a moderate amount of silage, so it makes for a great scent for a man post-workout and can equally be worn to work and out on the weekends! - RLB

First Look: MAC's Antonio Lopez Collection for Fall 2013

This guest post is courtesy of Thefind

When I think of Fall beauty collections, I typically think of tawny, muted shades, rich browns, or deep jewel tones. I don't know what it is about autumn makeup, but for some reason, it seems like an excuse for beauty brands to calm things down from their more vibrant summer offerings and take a more neutral, sophisticated approach to the gloomier season ahead. Leave it to MAC, however, to switch things up a bit. Their latest Fall 2013 Collection pays homage to famed fashion illustrator Antonio Lopez and the supermodel legends who served as his muses, like Jerry Hall, Marisa Berenson, and Pat Cleveland, and the result is disco-inspired fabulousness.

The line, named "Antonio's Girls," features three six-shade eyeshadow palettes, three lip color compacts, and two face palettes for glamorous highlighting and contouring to help warm up your complexion after summer is long gone. In addition to the collection's lip, eye, and face palettes, the collection also includes a limited-edition makeup bag, brush, and mirror. Shop the collection online starting September 5th and in stores the following week, starting September 12th. - Alexandra Gambardella

Drugstore Buy of the Week - Indeed Nanoblur

Indeed Nanoblur,is one of those products that is really good - but takes a little getting used to and must be truly understood in in order to get truly great results:

As stated on the product instructions, this product can be used in three ways: 1) Alone (after moisturizer) on bare skin. 2) After moisturizer/sunscreen and BEFORE adding liquid foundation/bb cream. 3) AFTER applying powder/mineral foundation.

However, I've found a few tricks that improved this product's performance. The texture is a very light, creamy lotion. When I wanted a nice, matte appearance during the day I tapped/pressed a small amount on my tzone (about a dime-sized worth) with my fingers. I worked very quickly when applying as this product dries extremely fast (2-3 sec) and allowed it to set. It did give me an instant mattifying and "soft focus" effect to my skin, and didn't settle into my pores or leave any sticky/dry feel to my skin. My skin felt soft, toned and smoother.

Then I applied my liquid or cream foundation/bb cream over it.  Using the Nanoblur as a primer product together kept my makeup looking very fresh throughout the day (usually one 1-2 blots with much less oil on my blotting paper). If you have drier skin, I recommend mixing a bit of the Indeed Nanoblur with your liquid foundation and then applying.  You'll find you will get a similar effect, plus great all day coverage.

This is also a great overall complexion enhancer that will diffuse the appearance of fine lines large pores and wrinkles, so it's perfect for those of you who prefer not to wear makeup, but want additional treatment over your moisturizer that will give you a polished, enhanced effect. - RLB

Beauty Innovation - GlamGlow BrightMud Eye Treatment

This might be one of those products that you almost wish you DIDN'T like.

Because this innovative eye treatment really does produce results, especially just before a big event or night out - but it's a little pricey! (I have a great tip to save $...keep reading.)

GLAMGLOW BRIGHTMUD Eye Treatment comes in a set of two individually sealed pods. All you have to do is peel open and apply the contents right on the under eye area. It's a creamy, silky mud that felt quite light and smooth on my skin. There is a tingling sensation, but it didn't become overbearing or irritate my eye area in any way. After just three minutes (the perfect amount of time to brush teeth, take care of hair or nails, etc. in the AM), it just needs to be wiped off. My under eye area was completely smooth, refreshed and noticeably less puffy.

I used this about 2-3 times a week, and also before special occasions and loved the results. The area was noticeably more hydrated, so this is a great temporary solution for minimizing fine lines before an event where you're taking photos, for example. What is great is that the effects get even better about 15 minutes after the treatment, so my eyes look especially good after my makeup application! - RLB

Now, here's the trick: for most people, just using one pod will give you enough product for both eyes. That way you can use each pod two times instead of just once = saving money.

Beauty Find - WEN by Chaz Dean Sweet Almond Mint Replenishing Treatment Mist

I've loved WEN and Chaz's hair products for years, and one of the best features of any new haircare he creates is the scent. His Almond Mint fragrance is one that I think is one of the best fragrances I've ever expereinced in a hair product. It's light, fresh and has a hint of sweetness that gives a bit of the Almond feel - it's truly unique!

WEN by Chaz Dean Sweet Almond Mint Replenishing Treatment Mist is the perfect product to give your hair not only moisture (which works on all hair types, especially curly), but also refreshes hair almost like a dry shampoo. If you are between washings, all it takes are a few pumps sprayed through the hair and then either lightly brushed or finger combed through. It makes hair very soft, and also look shinier and fluffier too.It also multi tasks as a detangler on damp hair.

For curly hair, this is perfect to revive and define dry curls in the morning that are deydrated and frizzy. Another bonus - this is also formulated to be safe for skin, so it makes a refreshing evening facial mist and even light body spray! A WEN product that everyone should have in their beauty arsenal. - RLB

NARS Pays Homage to its Bleecker Street Roots with Two New Fall Products

This guest post is courtesy of Thefind

As someone who is pretty adventurous when it comes to makeup shades, picking an all-around favorite is no small feat. But that said, without a doubt, I'm a plum girl. Plum eyeshadow, plum lipstick, even plum eyeliner – it's just such a universally-flattering shade that works across the full spectrum of beauty products. Plum all day, every day, as far as I'm concerned!

So if you've taken a peek at NARS' 413 BLKR Collection for Fall 2013, named after the brand's flagship West Village store on Bleecker Street, it goes without saying that I'm pretty obsessed. But I'm not the only one buzzing about the collection's recent newest additions – a gorgeous plum lipstick and a deep midnight nail polish. These two perfect-for-fall products are available to buy as of August 1st, so get a head start on your autumn beauty routine and snatch them up before they're gone! - Alexandra Gambardella

Clinique Revamps its Fan-Favorite Moisturizer...with Even MORE Moisture

This guest post is courtesy of Thefind.com

No, this isn't a cruel, sick joke. Clinique has changed its go-to moisturizer after 45 years. But before you pitch a fit, start throwing things, or go bezerk raiding your skincare stash for almost-empty discarded yellow bottles, hear me out. The new-and-improved Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion+ isn't so dramatically different from the tried-and-true original. Same name, same bottle – except for the easy-to-miss "+" at the end of it – but now, after a revamping process that took over six years to perfect, the world's go-to lotion since 1968 boasts even more moisture.

Don't worry, the iconic moisturizer's non-greasy texture is still the same (thank goodness), but with a new complex that strengthens skin's moisture barrier to protect against damaging environmental factors while keeping your skin soft, smooth, and hydrated. "It comes across very simple and basic, but it was one of the most difficult things I have ever developed," says Janet Pardo, senior vice president of global product development. So, Clinique fans – have you tried the brand's new-and-improved take on everyone's favorite lotion? Let us know your thoughts in the comments! - Alexandra Gambardella

Beauty Find - NARS Radiant Cream Compact Foundation

NARS has a new foundation that is worth adding to your makeup collection.

For the first time in the NARS line, NARS Radiant Cream Compact Foundation is housed in a refillable convenient compact, but thankfully, it still comes in a large range of shades (20!).
To begin using, I opened up the pre-wrapped foundation cube (shown above on the left) and popped it easily into the compact. I loved the sleek, thin, lightweight design of the compact, which is perfect to throw in a bag and of course for travel.
First, applying with a dry compact sponge, the foundation felt very light and creamy. While the texture was on the "drier" side, it still melted instantly into my skin. I also liked using a foundation brush to apply, and found it quite buildable to full coverage. I used the shade, Trinidad (shown, above), which was a good match for my tanned summer skin tone.

Used dry, the finish was very "natural-matte". Meaning it gave me great coverage and also managed to keep the oilies at bay in my tzone for the most part during the day.  It also managed to provide a nice level of moisture to my drier areas, like my cheeks.

Used with a damp sponge, the finish was a bit more "dewy" and could still be built up to a full coverage look.  If you're someone who shies away from foundations because you don't like to feel like you're wearing anything on your skin, this is a perfect formula.  It was practically weightless on my skin. The staying power was fantastic during the day, with just a light blot or two necessary, even in warmer, more humid weather.
If you're due for a new foundation to start off the Fall season, this is a great one to try! - RLB
*Compact and refill are sold separately, but the compact is very well constructed and designed, so you will most likely not ever have to buy another, therefore, only the foundation would need to be replaced.

Drugstore Buy of the Week - Maybelline Eye Studio Master Smoky Long-Wearing Shadow Pencil

Do you long for an EASY (and I do mean EASY) way to give yourself a quick, smoky eye look?

Then, it really doesn't get much easier (and cheaper) than Maybelline EyeStudio Master Smoky Mechanical Eyeshadow Pencil

Step 1. Line upper lids the pencil.
Step 2 Line lower lids.
Step 3. Use the rounded sponge tip on the opposite side of the eye pencil to smudge out the lines, creating the smoky effect.

Voila! A perfect smoky eye :)

The retractable pencil itself is very soft and creamy and blends so well it really is as easy as above to achieve the smoky eye. The sponge can be used at an angle or straight on the tip to blend the lines out to your desired effect. I used Black Smoke (shown, above), which is a slightly light black color, with a hint of gray, once smudged out. I think this is perfect for a subtle smoky day time eye look, in particular.

There are also a some very pretty jewel tones in the line like Smoldering Violet and Emerald Fury (all the shades have a fairly diffused quality to them from application to smudging, which help create that "soft cloud" of color around the eye that you get with a smoky look, so it should be noted that these are not very bright/deep colors in the collection).

Once I smudged the liner it was set and I could literally forget about it. I didn't get any fading, smudging or transfer on to my lids during the day, and it was fairly water resistant as well. Of course, if you're just looking for a pretty, longwearing creamy eyeliner to line eyes simply without any smoky effect, this is perfect for that as well! - RLB

Beauty Find - vbeauté Day Job Sun Protection Creme

In a sea of sun screens for the face on the market, this latest one from vbeauté not only offers great (and all natural!) protection from the sun, but feels like a true luxury skin care experience.
vbeauté Day Job Sun Protection Creme has a SPF 30 and protects skin from both UVA and UVB rays.  It's made with their own zinc formula which blends seemingly into the skin.  I loved it's rich, creamy, yet lightweight texture and no disenable scent, but just a light fresh feel.  It was very concentrated, so only a pea-sized amount was needed to get great coverage for my face.  And true to it's description, the cream didn't leave any white or grey finish on my skin at all.
My skin was silky smooth and felt hydrated, while the finish was semi-matte.  It truly made my skin look fresh and radiant.  It also provided the perfect canvas for any foundation/BB cream that I chose to wear over it.  Makeup went on smooth and had great staying power, with no flaking, "balling up" or smudging.
This formula is also hydrating and offers anti-aging benefits via their patented BioCellular Peptide, which diminishes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.  This is a wonderful choice for those of you who prefer great skin care, chemical free sun protection, and anti-aging benefits. - RLB
Remember! Apply liberally and evenly to skin 15 minutes prior to sun exposure. Reapply at least every 2 hours, after 40 minutes of swimming or sweating and immediately after towel drying.

Budget Beauty Find - L'Oreal True Match Foundation

Find this review and more of my beauty
reviews on the
PRIMP Beauty Shopping app
I'm sure you've seen the print or television ads with beauties Beyoncé and Jennifer Lopez for L'Oreal True Match Foundation.
And if you're anything like me you might have thought: "Of COURSE it's going to look great on them, with their near perfect skin, plus amazing lighting, etc...."

But I have to say I was overwhelmingly surprised by how great this drugstore foundation is.
The first thing that took a little getting used to was my actual color category in this foundation line.  You see, normally, I am defined as a "warm" undertone
with a great deal of yellow/orange color in the mix. However, the shade that provided a near perfect match, in L'Oreal's system, was a "cool" shade - C6 (Soft Sable).
Find this review and more of my beauty reviews on the
PRIMP iPhone app!
So once I got past that little difference I was ready to dive into road testing this foundation.
With combination skin, leaning towards more oily in my t-zone in the summer months, this medium coverage formula provided the perfect finish of slightly matte/slightly dewy, but not unnaturally so.
The consistency of the foundation is slightly more liquidly than I expected, but was silky smooth and lightweight on my skin.  There is a very fine shimmer included which brightened up my skin tone almost imperceptibly, but still looked very natural, even in daylight.  I loved applying it with my fingers, but also got a great finish using a foundation brush.

The packaging may be a little "low-tech" by today's standards - glass bottle with no pump.  But it does contain a broad spectrum sunscreen of SPF 17, which I appreciate.  Like it's name suggests, this foundation is very easy to blend, is buildable, and it has a great amount of pigment and "slip" so only about a dime's worth gave me perfect everyday coverage.

The staying power was also very impressive -  even through heat and humidity, and the color stayed true during the day. It didn't clog my pores, or aggravate my skin in any way. I loved how healthy and fresh this made my skin look.  If you have very oily skin, you may find that a setting or shine control powder will better help you keep a matte look during the day.

I would say the coverage was so good, that if you have fairly even skin and no major dark circles/ blemishes, you can get away with just using this foundation without any concealer. Yay! - RLB
P.S. The newly expanded color range in this foundation line is also VERY impressive and inclusive to all skin tones...so brown girls, don't be afraid to give it a try too!

Beauty Innovation - AVON Mega Effects Mascara

Are you willing to rethink what a mascara looks like?

Are you willing to learn a new way of applying mascara?

If the answer to these 2 questions is yes - then you're in for some of the longest, lushest, huge lashes you'll get outside of extensions/false lashes with Avon MEGA Effects Mascara

Let's start with the mechanics of the Avon MEGA Effects.

The packaging is essentially a small, soft, plastic rectangle.  Each side in the center of the tube (where it says AVON) must be lightly squeezed together in order to open the top. (This may take a minute or two to get open!). Next you take off the red cap.

What you will see next is the neck of the actual brush, which is sticking straight up.  It looks a bit like a small painter's brush, which has to be pulled directly up out of the base (the black half). The short little red handle can be kept straight or bent at an angle to get your chosen lash look.

Now that I've described how to get it out, here's what it was like to use.

The tip of the brush has variously sized, densely packed stiff bristles which must be pushed from the base of the lashes up all the way through to the tips.  The best way to think of it as using a roller paint brush as if you were painting a wall, up and down.  I chose Black, which is a very deep, glossy black. The formula itself is a very wet one, so I found it was best to really take my time using this so I didn't get any smudges.

Once I passed through each of my lashes two times I was simply amazed by how long and lush my lashes looked!  I should note my lashes are not short, but this formula/brush combination increased the length and thickness by at least twice as much.  Because the formula is very wet, I also found I needed to wait a few minutes for the mascara to fully dry before attempting any eyeliner, etc.  There was no flaking or smudging once everything was set, and I loved the amount of height and separation my lashes maintained all day.

Avon MEGA Effects Mascara also does wonders for the lower lashes, but again, I found I had to go slow and steady and then I got amazing baby doll lashes.  Once dry, my lashes were slightly, "crunchy" to the touch, but appeared soft and separated throughout the day. Note: An alternative way of applying this is to place the brush near the base of your lashes and then blink slowly several times, so your lashes are coated with the mascara without having to use your hands to apply.

Coming in at only $10 Avon MEGA Effects Mascara is truly one of the best new mascara entries this year for the value and performance. The packaging still works for throwing in a travel bag or purse as well.  If you love BIG lashes for your regular beauty look and/or don't want to have to go through adding falsies for a special night out, this is THE ONE mascara you need. - RLB

Impulse Buy of the Week - Molton Brown Polynesian Kopara Anti-aging Hand Crème

Apply Molton Brown Polynesian Kopara Anti-aging Hand Crème at night, and not only will the scent put an immediate smile on your face before you end your day, but you'll wake up with supremely soft, smooth and beautifully scented hands.
From my first experience with this Molton Brown hand cream I was completely in love.  This cream is blended with the Kopara plant from Polynesia which improves hydration and line reduction, Red Algae to condition and moisturize nails, and Nutmeg seed which firms skin.
The scent is one of the most beautiful I've ever experienced in a hand cream.  It's a relaxing floral which is balanced perfectly with a touch of spice and even citrus.  (A fine fragrance should be on the way with this blend, Molton Brown!)
The texture of the crème is silky and thick.  It's very concentrated, so only a dimes' worth was needed to fully cover both of my hands and also give my nails/cuticles a wonderful massage.  The hydration was immediate but it was a after a night of sleep that I noticed just how much softer and smoother my hands were after using each night for over a week or so.
The scent is so amazing, I also used it during the day and after a manicure as well, which I'm sure increased the results I saw as well.
The formula didn't leave any trace of greasiness or oil, but my hands felt completely moisturized and protected.   Pick up this skin care treat for your hands today! - RLB

Drugstore Buy of the Week - Caress Tempting Whisper Body Wash

A few weeks ago I was invited to an event hosted by Caress spokeswoman and TV celebrity, Lala Anthony, to introduce their latest fine fragrance elixir body wash for Spring 2013, Caress Tempting Whisper Body Wash.

If you're not familiar with the Caress fine fragrance elixir line of body washes - you should be!  For about $5 you can get an amazingly rich and moisturizing body wash that ALSO smells just as good as a beautiful perfume.  As a matter of fact, Tempting Whisper is inspired by fine fragrances and was created by the top experts at the Givaudan fragrance house.

The fragrance has notes of infused Wild Peony and Red Plum and it's such a rich and decadent scent, it made my entire morning. I would say this is a lovely interpretation of a "Floral-Oriental" scent (and certainly smells like a fragrance that costs way more than $5!).The body wash is a gel formula which is very concentrated, produced a thick lather and rinsed off well with no sticky or oily film.

Not only did the fragrance linger beautifully in the bathroom after my shower, but I continued to get little fragrance spurts throughout the day, almost perfectly timed! - RLB

Beauty Find - Miracle Skin Transformer Sculpting Bronzer

I've been impressed with Miracle Skin Transformer products in the past, and their take on Bronzer is also quite a pretty, easy-to-use modern product.

Miracle Skin Transformer Tinted Sculpting Balm, Coral Bronze, .23 oz is the perfect blend of a rosy-bronze shade with just a touch of shimmer.  It's very creamy and blended just as easily straight from the tube as it did with my fingers.

On my skin it gave me the perfect base for everyday shading under my cheek bones, on my temples, etc., or blending with my blush for a more bronzy cheek shade.  It does have a hydrating-gel like feel as well, which makes it very good for those of you with drier skin.  The sculpting balm is also very concentrated, so this will last quite a while.  This stick formula is perfect for a touch up during the day and of course for travel to use as a multi-purpose color for the face (looks great on the eyes and a touch on the lips as well).

The staying power is also great, and it lasted throughout the day on hot, and even humid/muggy days!  This is the perfect goof-proof way to add a beautiful luminous touch of color, or do shading. For a more pink cheek,  try the equally pretty shade Fresh Rose.

Beauty Find - Clinique Stay Matte Oil-Free Foundation

Whether you deal with oily skin year-round, or just during very hot summer months, Clinique Stay-Matte Oil-Free Makeup is one of the most perfect, everyday-easy  foundations I've found in quite a while.

The formula is stellar from start to finish. On my combination skin, the texture is creamy and light, with a slight gel-like feel.  It felt so amazing going on my skin and the color match, 24 Golden (shown, above) was perfect.

During the summer, I like to use foundation sparingly, mainly in my t zone. I loved using this with a foundation brush.  I also like that just a pea sized amount was more than enough for covering my desired areas. The finish was fantastic - matte with just a light sheen that looked very natural.

The foundation kept me matte throughout most of the day, and generally I only had to blot a bit during the late afternoon (and the amount of oil that came off was significantly less than usual). Even in very humid/hot conditions, this foundation stayed on (very impressive!) This is a great foundation even for those with sensitive skin as is does not clog pores or irritate skin.

If you don't have very oily skin, this formula will give you a nice finished look even without any additional powder on top.  The color range is plentiful with a nice mix of more yellow, pink and orange toned shades.  This is a must have foundation for me now (year round)! - RLB

Nail Polish Find - Dolce & Gabbana Love in Taormina

Dolce and Gabbana have another stellar nail lacquer collection for summer 2013 called Love in Taormina.

Again fronted by the amazing Italian actress and face of the beauty brand, Monica Bellucci, this collection has rich, almost neon corals, pinks and purple shades which are decadent and ever so chic on nails or toes - in your highest heels or wedges of course!

My favorite shade in the collection is the ultra wearable Camelia (pictured, above), an fluorescent coral that looks great on all skin tones (really!).

When you want a light shade for summer that still has a lot of kick to it, Oleandro (pictured, below) is a stunning creamy, iridescent pink with pink, gold and peach shimmer.

In addition to these beautiful new shades, Dolce and Gabbana now has 3 new products in their Nail Care Line, Base Lacquer, High Shine top lacquer (one of the best top coats I've ever used!) and Matte top lacquer

When I used the base with these new shades, topped with the high shine top coat, my manicure looked freshly done well into 5 days after having it done.  Worth every penny! :) - RLB
