Fragrance Find - My Burberry Shower Oil

While I've never officially reviewed the BURBERRY My Burberry fragrance on the blog, it's actually become one of my favorites over the last year or so.

But with colder temps on the way, and many of you seeking different dry-skin remedies year round, I thought I'd introduce you to the BURBERRY My Burberry Shower Oil.

This is a luxe way to enjoy both a shower oil, and of course, the BURBERRY My Burberry fragrance, which is a lovely floral with notes of Rose, blended beautifully with spicy patchouli and fresh geranium leaf.

The Shower Oil is lightweight and silky, with a touch of gel-like texture, so it never felt runny coming out of the bottle or on my skin.  The oil turned creamy and then lathered softly when I added water in the shower. The scent was very similar to the My Burberry perfume, just softer, and I felt like my skin was gently cleansed, but also very moisturized, even before rinsing.

When I rinsed there was no sticky, oily or gummy residue, but my skin did feel like it had a layer of moisture and was soft and smooth to the touch.

BURBERRY My Burberry Shower Oil will be a new must have as we head into winter and my skin becomes drier and flakier. And for those of you who are bath lovers, yes, this works equally as well.  The scent in the tub is very relaxing and the bath water also carries the scent a bit more on to the skin.

Click and order this one!  You won't be sorry. - RLB

Beauty Find - REN Wake Wonderful Night-Time Facial

REN has become one of my skincare mainstays over the last year or so, with unique products and effective formulas that really do deliver great results without irritating my skin.

My latest love is the REN Wake Wonderful Night-Time Facial  a great way to get softer, smoother and more toned skin by just adding before bedtime (yes, this is another ultimate lazy-girl beauty product!).

Wake Wonderful is designed to exfoliate, reinvigorate and hydrate skin.  It uses a combination of lactic and glycolic acids with enzymes to repair uneven texture, support natural cell turnover. The glycogen, magnesium, and omega oils to energize, revitalize, and heal. And odium lactate, which attracts water to the skin, works to plump and hydrate.

After cleansing my skin, I added REN Wake Wonderful Night-Time Facial, which has a white, medium weight, lotion texture.  It was very creamy and lightweight  and absorbed quickly and invisibly into my skin.  It also has the most lovely smell - a bit of light, fresh citrus scent that dissipated after a few minutes.

There was a bit of light tingling for about the first 10 minutes.  While my skin felt very moisturized, it didn't feel greasy or oily before I actually went to sleep.

I the morning, I was very impressed.  My skin had a beautiful rosy glow, was plump and moisturized in my drier areas like my cheeks, and was noticeably smoother.  My makeup went on like a dream as well.

I now use Wake Wonderful about 3x a week and couldn't be happier.  I also LOVE the tube packaging and size (it's very concentrated so a little goes a long way) which makes it perfect for travel.  - RLB

Drugstore Buy of the Week - Maybelline Color Blur Creme Matte Pencil

Did you know there's a fun new lip color trend that's started in Korea, and is making it's way here to the US?

Its called an Ombre or "Popsicle" lip effect, and it's done by blurring highly pigmented color in the center of the lips and then lightly fanning the color out to the edges of the mouth - or the reverse- concentrating the color on the outer edges of the mouth, and then lightly smudging it as you bring the color inward to the center of the lips.  Here's one of Maybelline's examples, (shown, left).

So Maybelline came up with Maybelline Lip Studio Color Blur  to both achieve this new look - as well as to use for a classic bold, non-drying matte lip color, (if "blurred" lip color is not your thing).

But I think blurred lips are a fun way to mix up color on the lips for this Fall - especially when it's a rich, creamy matte shade that's non drying!

As you can see, the Maybelline Lip Studio Color Blur Cream Matte Pencil is a dual sided twist up lip pencil with a creamy lip color on one side and a smudger on the other, which will allow you to do the "blurring". The tip to the lip crayon is flat, which made it very easy to apply quickly and with accuracy.  I found that with a few tries and some patience, I could really get some cool looks from shades like  Partner in Crimson a bright pinky-red (shown, above).  But some days, I just used it like a traditional lip liner/lip color combo product without using the smudger - and really liked the versatility of it.

The pigment in all 10 shades was incredible with the perfect amount of "slip" to apply, a smooth creamy texture and non-drying formula.  The finish is opaque and velvety and it never made my lips dry or flaky during the day.  I loved how smooth and even the color was with just 1-2 layers.  For those of you who don't care for flavor or scent, you're in luck as well!  These have absolutely none.

Two more great shades: Maybelline Lip Studio Color Blur, Plum, Please (for a softer, more nude/rosy look that works with all skin tones) + Maybelline Lip Studio Color Blur, I'm Blushing (for a very nude/light pink lip for those of you with lighter skin tones.)

Pick up a few of these ASAP! - RLB

Beauty Find - Urban Decay Naked Smoky Eye Shadow Palette

You may have never owned an Urban Decay Naked  palette - or you may own a few of their previous versions, but I promise you - if you LOVE doing a smoky eye or you're a makeup artist, you need the Urban Decay Naked Smoky  palette.

These 12 gorgeous satin and shimmery shades range from mochas, beiges and chocolates to sultry grays, taupes, a rich, deep black, of course, and even a killer deep violet.  The shades are evenly split between warm shades and cool shades, which I loved.  This will get you to try color combinations and shades that you might not normally gravitate to. The palette contains their classic double ended, with a tapered crease brush on one end and a smoky smudger brush on the other.

The Naked Smoky shades are silky smooth, extremely pigmented to work with both light and dark skin tones (and when I mean extremely, I mean I barely had to touch the pan with my eye shadow brush to get intense color on my lids). I found all the shades to be very true to the pan colors, and very blendable.  If you want to do a "daytime friendly" smoky eye, or just want to use a shade as a soft eyeliner, these allow you to do that as well, because you can "sheer" them out easily.

Once these shades were on - they stayed on - all day with no fading, no drying out,  and very little creasing

See below for the full list of shades - which include nine new shades and three exclusive shades from past Urban Decay palettes.

If you're going to treat yourself to just 1 more makeup palette this year - make this the one you order. - RLB

Beauty Find - GLAMGLOW Poutmud Fizzy Lip Exfoliating Treatment & Wet Lip Balm Treatment Duo

GLAMGLOW is always creating beauty products which have great packaging - and are very effective.

Their new GLAMGLOW Poutmud Fizzy Lip Exfoliating Treatment + Wet Lip Balm Treatment Duo caught my eye, and I love it!

I love the idea of a lip mask to really treat my lips before a special lipstick, or if I've just dealing with a look of flaking/chapping from dry/cold air.

There are two (very large sized) orbs with product.  Both the Lip Exfoliating Treatment and the Lip Balm Treatment are both very concentrated, so I only needed a little less than a pea sized amount of each and had more than enough for my upper/lower lips.

First I applied the Fizzy Lip Exfoliating Treatment, which yes, did tingle (but was not overpowering or painful) and after a few minutes I wiped it off and was amazing by how smooth, soft and pillowy my lips felt.  The I applied the Wet Lip Balm Treatment which I also loved.  The texture and feel was very creamy but light and extremely hydrating.

After using the two products, my lipstick/balm/tint went on smoothly and my lips stayed soft and hydrated much longer than just using a lip balm on it's own, first.  This was also great to use before using a matte lipstick as well to keep my lips feeling comfortable and not having the color dry out during the day.

I got great results using this about 3x week.  If you're on a long airline flight, this is a nice little beauty treatment to sneak in as well! -RLB

Drugstore Buy of the Week - Biore Deep Cleansing Charcoal Pore Strips

If you've ever dealt with the dreaded "blackheads/whiteheads" popping up on your nose, you know that Biore Pore Strips have been a god-send for years to clean out your pores quickly and easily.

Now, Biore Deep Cleansing Charcoal Pore Strips combine their previous technology with the added ingredient of Charcoal.  Charcoal is a proven ingredient for cleansing skin thoroughly, as well as drawing out excess oil.

I really enjoyed using these and could see and feel the difference with the Charcoal.  After making the skin on my nose extremely wet (I used very warm water), I applied the Biore Deep Cleansing Charcoal Pore Strips.  I made sure that I took a few extra seconds to ensure the entire strip was flat on my nose area (with no gaps) so that it adhered and dried properly. The strips are actually black in color and just as thin as the originals.

After fully drying, I removed the strip and was very impressed with the amount of impurities and excess sebum, etc. that came off with the strip (because it's black you will notice more light colored debris on the strip).  My nose was very smooth, soft and clear.  I also noticed that my nose area was less oily not only immediately after, but during the day as well.

Biore Deep Cleansing Charcoal Pore Strips are perfect to use 1-2x week at home, for a mini skin treatment while you travel, and post-gym work out or sauna session. - RLB

Beauty Find - Smashbox Camera Ready BB Water Broad Spectrum SPF 30

Smashbox  already crushed it with their BB Cream - and now their latest makeup breakthrough is  BB Water .

This is a lighter weight coverage and treatment product that is perfect for those of you who have very good skin tone and just want to refine it, love a natural look, and/or need a lighter version of BB Cream for warmer weather.

Smashbox Camera Ready BB Water Broad Spectrum SPF 30  is an hydrating and oil-free and has a sheer, radiant finish for a natural demi-matte look. The texture is silky and water-like coming out of the dropper.

I loved that it was sheer enough that when I felt I needed a bit more coverage, it was very easy to build without becoming gummy, sticky or flaky on my skin.  I usually applied this with my fingers, but I got equally great results with a foundation brush and beauty blender as well. The SPF 30 is a nice touch for a great all round skincare product as well - it was so easy to get prepped and ready to go in the morning!

The BB Water  comes in 8 shades that will compliment almost all skin tones.  I used the Medium/Dark for a good match, (although it will be a touch better in the cooler months when my summer tan wears off).

If you hate feeling like you're wearing makeup, it really doesn't get much lighter than this. On my skin it was completely weightless and lasted all day without any smudging, drying out or getting overly oily.  I loved how it made my skin just slightly dewy, which kept it looking more finished that just bare skin - but still very natural. - RLB

Beauty Find - Kiehl's Since 1851 Daily Reviving Concentrate

If you have skin that's already changing with the cooler Fall temperatures in the Northeast, or battling dryness from lots of sun exposure this summer, I've found a great skin treatment in a small bottle.

Kiehl's Since 1851 Daily Reviving Concentrate is a mixture of powerful natural oils, including Ginger Root, Sunflower and Tamanu which all work to keep skin hydrated and looking glowing and fresh.

I applied the Daily Reviving Concentrate in the am or pm after cleansing.  The oil texture was very lightweight and just a few drops were all I needed of this concentrated formula to add moisture and a beautiful dewiness.  I loved that the oil felt dry upon applying it to my skin and instantly soothed my dried areas while absorbing quickly.

The finish is a dewy one, and best for normal to dry skin, but even if you have combination/slightly oily skin, you can still use it because it doesn't give an overly shiny or greasy appearance at all.  I felt it was more of a glow.  I used it either as a base layer before applying makeup in the AM, or I would mix a bit with a lightweight primer/moisturizer on days when I felt a bit drier.  I even liked using the excess on my elbows, cuticles and nail beds.

Another plus?  It smelled amazing!  It's a light, bright, floral essence that dissipates quickly but was really enjoyable to experience while I was massaging the Kiehl's Since 1851 Daily Reviving Concentrate into my skin.

My skin felt much plumper and hydrated during the day, and it was a great base for my foundation and makeup as well.  Even in my more oily t-zone I didn't get an overdose of oilies
as the day went on or any breakouts in the area.  This will also be a staple in my travel bags to prep my skin before long, drying plane travel.

Pick up this little treasure - your skin will be happy you did! - RLB

Fragrance Find - Narciso Rodriquez NARCISO EDP

As we're heading into Fall, there are the usual slew of new fragrances and flankers coming across my desk to review.  But it was a chance discovery at Bloomingdales that now has me raving about Narciso Rodriguez Narciso Eau de Parfum for Fall.

I really liked Narciso's first fragrance, Narciso Rodriguez For Her Eau de Parfumso when I came across Narciso Rodriguez NarcisoI thought I might have an idea what this might smell like (admittedly without having previously seen any fragrance notes or advertising).

But not only were my expectations shattered after my first spritz, but I found myself completely transported and in love - and purchased it on the spot.

This fragrance is very sexy, sensual and yes - unique.  The opening notes started out on me with a very fresh, authentic floral combination of gardenia and rose.  Then the heart of scent came through - equally musky and woody,  but with a very "creamy" feel. After the first hour, the floral notes warmed up more and it also became slightly powdery.

But it was really how Narciso Rodriguez Narciso continued to develop and linger during the day that was so impressive.  There were more light, powdery notes, in addition to a comforting fragrance note I can only say smelled "nutty" - which was really different.  The staying power was over 6+ hours on me, and the dry down was soft, still creamy, with a very dry, cedar feel.  The silage was very good, but I never felt like the scent was entering the room before me.

The compliments poured in whenever I wore Narciso.  I found myself using it during the day, weekends and at night.  For the Fall, and into the colder months, Narciso Rodriguez Narciso is a wonderful, feminine scent, and will stay in my fragrance rotation for the foreseeable future.

P.S. If you have a real fragrance lover in your life - BUY Narciso for them as a gift. It just may become their new signature scent :) - RLB

Drugstore Buy of the Week - L'Oreal Paris Colour Riche Collection Exclusive Reds, Eva's Red

Last year, I shared with you one of the great Nude shades for women of color, L'Oreal Paris Colour Riche Collection Exclusive Lip Color, Liya's Nude 630  which was part of their Exclusive Nudes collection

This year the Paris Colour Riche Collection has created multiple red lipsticks inspired by all of their celebrity and model ambassadors.  The one I was drawn to the most happened to be L'Oreal Paris Colour Riche Collection Exclusive Reds, Eva's Red 403, inspired by actress, Eva Longoria.

Red lipstick is something that most women either REALLY love - or stay away from like the plague, because it can sometimes be hard to find the right one for your skin tone (as well as your undertones).

I happen to love lots of different reds, but I find that I most often go back to the reds which have a warmer or brown/brick red base to them

As you can probably tell from the photo above, this is a red that's much more in the brownish/orange category - but with my skin tone, it definitely still reads as red, just a very warm one.  I think Eva's Red is so pretty for Fall and does well with brown/chocolate shadows and a dark brown smoky eye.

Even better than the color is the texture and quality of the lipstick.  It has a very creamy texture with lots of slip, so it glided effortlessly over my lips.  It also stayed put while keeping my lips moisturized for hours on end - I was very impressed!  The finish is a satin-matte, so it had a touch of sheen, but no shine.

The L'Oreal Paris Colour Riche pigmentation is also incredible.  Just one light swipe of the lipstick on my lips and I had the exact, rich color from the tube.  The packaging is great too - it's a special limited edition case with gold lettering, Eva's autograph in gold and a black rubberized lipstick casing.

If you're looking for reasonably priced warm red to add to your collection - this is the one! - RLB

Beauty Find - Paula's Choice Skincare

This post is sponsored by Paula's Choice Skincare and Pretty in my Pocket

Do you have combination skin or skin that often "behaves" in a different way depending on the weather, the season, time of the month, etc?

I recently had the opportunity to try a skincare line that I had heard great things about to address many of the issues of my combination skin, Paula’s Choice.

First I had a skincare consultation over the phone.  (And by the way Paula’s Choice offers a FREE skincare consultation to everyone, by calling them at 1-800-831-4088. I loved getting customized, individual personal care and attention!)

After asking me several questions about my skin, my consultant decided to send me products to address my more oily and acne prone t-zone, from the Clear line, as well as products to address my drier areas and uneven skin tone, from the Resist line.

The Clear Regular Strength Kit is what I used primarily because I was dealing with my "summer" skin issues - which are skin that is much more oily and prone to heat bumps and occasional break outs from perspiration, etc.  The three products included are: Clear Cleanser, Clear Regular Strength Exfoliant, Clear Regular Strength Blemish Treatment (shown, at top of page).

I found this line was very effective and easy to use. I loved the cleanser, which is a clear gel, lightweight and lightly foaming, which I used daily with my clarisonic.  It cleansed well and my skin felt more toned and slightly tighter, but not overly dry.  The Exfoliant is a liquid toner which really made a difference in the look and feel of my pores and nose area in particular.   I was also very impressed with the Blemish Treatment, which contains Benzoyl Peroxide.  I used the treatment on a few stray pimples that had popped up.  Within just 2 days of using 2x day they were completely cleared up and my skin was not irritated or dry.  I went on to use this treatment just 1x day in small areas afterwards to prevent future breakouts, which was very successful.

Now, for my drier areas, like my cheeks and under eye area, I used some of the products from the Resist line.    I loved the Resist Anti-Aging Replenishing Toner.  This is one of the best toner's I've every used for drier skin.  There are no alcohols and my skin was instantly firm, smooth and hydrated at the same time.

This was perfect to use on my cheeks/chin.  The feel of the toner was also amazing - more of a liquid-y lotion than a traditional watery or gel like texture.  It just felt so amazing going on my skin. During this summer, most days this was enough for hydration, but at night, I Ioved using a bit of the Resist Barrier Repair Moisturizer with Retinol.  This moisturizer is packed with anti-oxidants and retinol to hydrate, improve skin tone and repair sun damage.  The texture of this moisturizer was also amazing.  The moisturizer was creamy, lightweight and absorbed quickly into my skin. Within just 2 days of using this each evening, I could see a real difference in the texture and smoothness of my drier areas.  As we head into Fall and the cold winter months, I'll continue to use these two Resist products in my skincare routine, in larger amounts.

There's so much available in the Paula's Choice skincare range, that I encourage you to use their skincare consultants to help you make a few starter purchases so you can experience what a truly great skincare line (without hype and over reaching claims) is like.  This is a line in which the prices are very fair for how effective and pleasant to use the products are.  Click below to start your journey! - RLB
