2016 Holiday Gift Pick - CHANEL No. 5 L'Eau

Who is CHANEL N-5 L'EAU meant for?

If you are an ardent fan of the classic CHANEL No. 5 (and like to layer scents) the answer is it's for you.

If you're looking for a light, elegant scent based on a classic - the answer is it's also for you

This newest variation of CHANEL N-5 was developed by CHANEL house perfumer, Olivier Polge (Son of the former Chanel house perfumer, Jacques Polgewho also created one of my other favorites, CHANEL N-5 EAU PREMIRE).

N-5 L'EAU’s notes include Rose de Mai, lemon, mandarin, bergamot, orange, aldehydes, jasmine, ylang ylang, sandalwood, cedar and soft musk notes.

CHANEL N-5 L'EAU delivers as it's promised: a lighter and fresher variation on the original. From the very first spritz I recognized the original No. 5, but it was softer and smoother. It's so refreshing in fact, you might fight yourself spraying it on a lot (not necessarily a bad thing!), because it never becomes to heavy or overwhelming.

Form the opening spray CHANEL N-5 L'EAU was beautiful - lots of neroli and orange/citrus notes combined with the famous aldehydes.  As it settled on my skin, I began to smell the rose developing, along with the white flowers.  The dry down is also much sheerer than the original, but keeps the classic woody musks on top.  It's deceptively simple and fresh, but at the same time, uncomplicated.

If you're a die hard fan of the original CHANEL N-5 Eau de Parfum you will see the respect and care that went into this new, modern approach, and perhaps add it as a layering element with CHANEL N-5 Eau de Parfum. Or If you're looking for a beautiful new scent that will stay in your fragrance rotation for many years, CHANEL N-5 L'EAU will also deliver for you. - RLB
